Children enjoy magic of festive season at Relaxed Christmas events

Relaxed Christmas

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Paul Greenfield was filled with festive cheer when he paid a visit to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s Relaxed Christmas Experience at Bleary Business and Community Centre.

The Relaxed Christmas Experience events, were specially designed for children with sensory processing issues, autism or special educational needs and their families, took place over two weekends, Friday 2 to Sunday, December 4 and Friday 9 to Sunday, December 11, with all events booked out.

The experiences offered the opportunity for the children to enjoy the magic of meeting Santa, Mrs Claus and the Elves, along with other festive activities in a calm and supportive environment.

Visitors to the experience were guided on their journey by the North Star Elf to meet with Father Christmas who presented each with a special gift before being invited to enter a sensory room and enjoy a range of festive activities including arts and crafts, multi-sensory installations, making their own reindeer dust and posting their letter to Santa in the special North Star mailbox!

Speaking at his visit the Lord Mayor said: “These events mean so much to the children, families and staff involved that it is a privilege to be a part of it. The sheer joy I have experienced on the children’s faces, the excitement in their eyes and the precious memories made are priceless.

“My thanks goes to all those involved in making these special events happen and especially to Santa Claus and his team of Elves who created such a personal, relaxed and captivating atmosphere to each and every one who came along.”

Over 140 very special children and their families attended the events throughout the two weekends, and the positive response from everyone involved has been overwhelming.
