South Lake Leisure Centre putting on ‘relaxed’ Santa visit session for children with sensory issues

It is feeling a lot like Christmas at South Lake Leisure Centre as staff were busy this week putting lights and tinsel on the 20ft Christmas tree and decorating the centre in preparation for Santa’s first visit to the venue on Wednesday!

The ‘Santa at South Lake’ festive experience is fully booked but the centre is putting on two additional ‘relaxed’ sessions for children with sensory issues, autism or special educational needs.

Taking place on Sunday December 5, [no flashing lights] and Monday December 6, [no music], both sessions are from 5pm – 6pm and children with additional needs can enjoy all the magic and wonder of this new Christmas event in a calm and supportive environment

The magical event begins with a warm greeting from one of Santa’s elves, Alabaster Snowball or Sugarplum Mary, who will guide you through a creative Christmas workshop.

Café Incredable at South Lake have prepared gingerbread men that need decorating and there will be the opportunity to create and post an eye-catching Christmas letter in the North Pole mailbox.

There is plenty of time for festive play with a Christmas NERF gun target challenge and a visit to South Lake Soft Play. Santa’s grotto will be the final stop, where each child will enjoy a very special experience with Santa and will receive a small gift.

Throughout the visit, parents and children can avail of the Sensory Room at the centre, a therapeutic and relaxing space equipped with a range of multi-sensory installations.

The experience lasts for approximately an hour, with families able to go at their own pace. There will be no official photographer present, but Santa’s elves will be happy to take photos on your own device if desired. During December, Café Incredable will be serving hot chocolate, gingerbread reindeers, festive coffees, mince pies and a lunchtime traditional Christmas dinner!

Limited spaces available and bookings must be made in-person at reception at South Lake. A Customer Advisor can then ensure that the centre caters for individual requirements. South Lake Leisure Centre is a fully accessible venue, with lifts to all levels.
