An Armagh car breaker was fined a total of £1,145 and ordered to pay a £15 offenders’ levy after he admitted unauthorised waste offences at Armagh Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Twenty-five-year-old Christopher Coleman, of Desert Lane, pleaded guilty to three charges relating to the treatment of end of life vehicles without any authorisations being in place.
The court heard that, in April 2014, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency visited the defendant’s business, CC Automotive, at Teeraw Road, Armagh.
Here they found approximately 66 end of life vehicles on site, some of which were undepolluted, and therefore hazardous waste.
The defendant pleaded guilty to three charges under Article 4 of the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997:
He was fined £625 for the first charge of keeping waste and £260 for each of the other two charges – a total of £1145.
