Armagh is expected to be one of the worst hit areas across the UK as up to 10cm of snow has been predicted this week.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for snow which is expected to begin falling at around 3pm tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday).
Forecasters have said that over Scotland and Northern Ireland 5-10 cm is likely even at low levels, with more than 10 cm over high ground.
Strong and gusty winds will likely accompany snow showers, and lead to significantly reduced visibility at times, difficult driving conditions and temporary blizzards over high ground.
The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel.
A message on the PSNI Armagh’s Facebook page said: “Please allow extra time for your journeys, use headlights if visibility is in any way reduced and ensure you are able to stop your vehicle in time. As always, we would ask you check the welfare of elderly neighbours, it only takes a minute and can make a big difference to them. Keep safe, wrap up well and crank up that heating!”
For next week forecasters are predicting that last week of January will get off to a breezy and damp start as weather fronts and some relatively mild Atlantic air clear away into the continent, however, February will bring with it some very wintry weather, similar to what we saw last week, with temperatures dipping below freezing.
