Armagh 2002 All-Ireland winning team members supporting ICU fundraiser

Family, friends and club-mates of former Armagh GAA star Ronan Clarke are throwing their weight behind a fundraising drive to say ‘thank-you’ for the excellent care which undoubtedly saved his life.

It was on Friday, August 14, that Ronan was seriously injured after colliding with a goal-post during a championship match against Maghery at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh.

The Armagh man – who celebrates his 32nd birthday this week – was left in a coma.

But he battled his way back to health and, later, took to social media to thank everyone for their support.

It is to the team at Craigavon Area Hospital that he will be eternally grateful.

“I have nothing but the highest praise for the excellent treatment I received in Craigavon Area Hospital from the consultants, doctors, nurses and ancillary staff,” he reported at the time. “I will always be in their debt.”

It is to that end, to say thank-you for saving his life, that Ronan’s  Pearse Óg Armagh Gfc club-mates are planning a fundraiser for the Intensive Care Unit at Craigavon Area Hospital.

A special evening will take place at the club on Saturday, October 17, featuring music by the fabulous Brown Notes.

And Ronan – who starred for the Orchard County in their 2002 All-Ireland final win against Kerry – will also be delighted that some of his Armagh team-mates from that famous victory will be attending the fundraiser.

Tickets for what promises to be a great night’s craic for a worthy cause as available, priced £5, from members, senior players, both men and ladies, or from the bar.

As part of the fundraiser which is being run by Pearse Og, all of the bootcamps held this week and next week in Clarke Fitness – which is run by Ronan – and CrossFit Armagh will be free.

They are open to everyone but, in return, participants are asked to make a donation to the Intensive Care Unit.

You can make a donation on the Donate Social Button at page: https://goo.gl/XWyjk1
