A Co Armagh business which specialises in manufacturing packaging for the food industry is planning a new extension that could create seven jobs.
McShane Packaging provides quality products throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe, from its base on the Aghanore Road, Armagh.
Local businessman Paddy McShane founded Progress Mushroom Supplies in 1996, before McShane Packaging evolved nine years later into a business “to meet the expanding needs of the rapidly growing plastics industry”.
A planning application has now been brought forward as the next step in the company’s aims for the future.
It will see new buildings emerge in place of what is currently used as storage units and accommodation for office and admin purposes.
The proposal intends to replace storage warehousing. It would also see an adjoining holding/despatch area connecting to the existing production area, as well as a new office building to replace the existing accommodation.
While the overall site would only see a marginal increase in size, the office element of the plans would be around three times what is currently available.
The application has been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration.
Papers submitted with the proposals indicate that, if approved, the work would allow for the creation of seven new jobs, increasing the workforce from 28 to 35.
The application is due to be publicly advertised next week.
