An Armagh city chippy has raised over £7,000 for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust after donating and entire day’s proceeds – and their wages – to the cause!
Based on Railway Street, The Dolphin II committed to giving 100% of their takings on November 7 to the charity, in what they called a ‘Chip-N for Charity’ day.
The entire team at the popular takeaway also agreed to hand over their day’s wages to make sure the charity reaped all the benefits of their efforts.
On the lead up to the big day, the team promised there were “no catches, just kindness” and encouraged the community to call in “grab your meal” and “snap a selfie”, saying boldly, “Let’s show what Armagh’s heart is made of.”
Following the extremely busy day behind the fryers, the team wasted no time in getting the total count. They knew it was a whopper and they wanted the community to know that too.
Making the first update that evening, they said: “THANK YOU ARMAGH.”
“Chip-N For Charity day was incredible. We have total from sales today of £4482.35 and we will count the donations tomorrow once all sealed boxes are opened.
“We’ll post the official donation total as soon as it’s confirmed.”
In a final and heartfelt word of thanks, they added: “But tonight we just want to say one thing: THANK YOU to every single person who came out, queued, ordered, shared, supported and cheered us on. You showed the power of community. The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust — this one’s for you.”
Once they counted up their additional donation jars, they were able to add an extra £1932.24 +€5.63 to the pot…. with an overall total of £7,280 handed over to the charity.
After a cheque presentation to Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, The team at Dolphin II said: “Because of your kindness, support and unbelievable generosity, we raised an amazing £7,280 for the The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
“To our local businesses and their staff who donated so generously — Greenpark Nursing home, Armagh Tree Surgeon, and Armagh Credit Union — thank you for stepping up and supporting this cause in such a big way.
“To our customers and the general public( there is too many to name it !!) who queued, ordered, donated, and even popped in just to say hello and drop money into the box — you made this day what it was. Your heart is unreal.
“A massive thank you to my amazing staff, who donated their wages and worked their socks off all day. Tired, but with smile on their faces. Your kindness and teamwork made me so proud.
“To our suppliers — Darren and VF Foods, Deirdre and Eamon Connolly, John (Golden Glen) and Barry and McCormack Potatoes— thank you for helping us make this happen behind the scenes.
“Together, as one incredible community, we achieved something truly special. £7,280 raised in one day — and every penny will make a difference!!
“Armagh… thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Sharing the incredible achievement across their own social media platforms representatives from Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust said: “Many thanks to the wonderful staff of the Dolphin II Chippy, Railway Street Armagh, who donated the takings, as well as their wages, from the 7th of November ( a magnificent total of £7280) to KBRT.
