Armagh city centre car park to re-open next month – three years after its closure

Armagh city centre car park

The gates to a 90-space Armagh city centre car park are set to open to the public next month – three years after they were closed for maintenance, Armagh I can reveal.

The car park at St Patrick’s Trian was shuttered in early 2020 and has been out of bounds ever since.

Back in March 2019, Armagh I reported that ABC Council had gone out to tender for the complete refurbishment – at an approximate cost of £1 million – of the car park.

The contract was awarded to Lowry Building and Civil Engineering, which is based in Castlederg in Co Tyrone.

The work is required to bring the multi-storey facility at English Street up to standard.

The car park is attached to St Patrick’s Trian and the top level provides access to the rear of the Market Place Theatre.

Council had planned on carrying on essential repairs before the Covid-19 pandemic curtailed those works.

Last August, Armagh I revealed that works were due to resume imminently. Those works are now set to conclude.

Council were unable to provide an exact date for opening but were confident the facility will be open to the public in May.
