Armagh City FC have erected new signage on the Sean ‘Dingle’ Daly Stand ahead of the first anniversary of the club legend’s passing.
Sean was a stalwart of Armagh City FC, initially as a player and later as a mentor and coach.
The father-of-five also played Gaelic football for both Armagh and Tyrone at county levels, and was a member of the All Ireland team of 1977 which took on Dublin.
He passed away peacefully in Hamilton Court Care Home on January 8 this year. He had been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2019.
The new signage at Holm Park, the club’s home ground, is sponsored by Devlin’s Bar, which is owned by friends of the family.
Sean’s daughter, Nichola, told Armagh I: “It’s very poignant and a true reflection of my dad’s dedication and contribution to the club over the years. It means so much as we approach his first anniversary on January 8.

“The club is a great community; my dad lived and breathed it and was proud of all it brought. He would be delighted with this recognition, we are super proud.
“Thanks to Aidan Murphy and to all at Armagh FC and to my dad’s lifelong best friend, Sean Devlin, for making this recognition happen. It means the absolute world.”
Sean’s passing in January left a huge void in the heart of not just the club but the city at large, with Sean having given many years of service to local sport.
In the early 1970s, Sean joined Armagh City FC, then known as Milford Everton, where he made nearly 300 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals.
Even though he was a midfielder, he was the leading goal scorer for three seasons from 1975 to 1979.
He was also joint manager of the first team for a year in 1982-1983.
When the youth set-up began in 2000, he began coaching some of the youngest children and was presented with Clubman of the Year in 2013-2014 in recognition of his efforts.
