Employers of a man who fell from a height and broke nine ribs and his left hand has today been fined.
Raptic Limited was fined £2,400 plus costs of £1780.14 for two health and safety breaches in 2014.
Today’s sentencing, at Laganside Crown Court, comes after a Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) investigation into an incident on September 5, 2014 in which a construction worker fell from height.
The fall occurred while the worker, who sustained several serious injuries including nine broken ribs and a fractured left hand, was fitting panels during the construction of temporary decking at Galgorm Resort and Spa.
Speaking after today’s hearing Kevin Campbell, an inspector with HSENI’s major investigation team, said: “All employers must ensure that proper precautions are put in place so that fall from height incidents can be prevented.
“It is essential that the proper management and monitoring of contractors on site, along with appropriate training and equipment will help to ensure that all workers are able to work safely”.
Falls from height can result in serious, permanent injuries or death. It is essential for employers, those self-employed and any person that controls the work of others to be fully up-to-date with the Work at Height Regulations (NI) 2005 and Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (NI) 2007 and appropriate guidance.
