Armagh crashed out of the Dr McKenna Cup following a disappointing defeat to University of Ulster (UU) at the Athletic Grounds tonight.
Kieran McGeeney named 11 recognised forwards in his team and it told, as UU bagged two goals in the opening stages of the game.
It wasn’t a game for the purists, as Armagh scored just the four points in the opening half to trail 0-4 to 2-2 at the break.
The Orchard men pulled a goal back just before the hour mark but the students were keeping them at arm’s length as their scores kept coming.
With five minutes of normal time to go, the home side trailed by two points (1-7 to 2-6).
McGeeney’s side managed to level it up late on but Ronan McNamee scored the decisive winner to condemn Armagh to another year of failing to make it out of the group stage.
And Armagh’s wait for a tenth McKenna Cup title continues – the last coming as far back as 1994.
