An Armagh man accused of kidnapping and causing grievous bodily injury to two females by dangerous driving will face Crown Court proceedings later this year.
The 33-year-old was released on his own bail of £1,000, including a condition not to be in a private motor vehicle other than to attend court or his solicitor’s office.
Barry Anthony McGuinness, of Mullacreevie Park, appeared charged with two counts of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, hijacking, dangerous driving and kidnapping at the city’s Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
As the charges were read out, it was outlined that all the alleged offences occurred on August 27, of last year.
The defendant is accused of driving, whilst disqualified, dangerously on the Battleford Road in Armagh causing injury to two named females.
McGuinness is also alleged to have kidnapped one of the above mentioned females and to have hijacked a Vauxhall Insignia car.
Appearing via videolink from his solicitor’s office, the defendant made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.
Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.
Defence solicitor Gabriel Ingram made no contrary submissions.
District Judge Eamonn King said that he was satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer.
The defendant was released on his own bail of £1,000 to appear before Newry Crown Court on December 3 for arraignment.
Conditions of this included he wear an electronic tag, report twice weekly to police, have no contact with the alleged injured parties, not to be in a private motor vehicle other that to attend court or his solicitor’s office and he must observe a curfew between the hours of 11pm and 7am.
