An Armagh man has been warned he must engage with a community-based order or he will serve six months in prison.

A judge gave the 23-year-old his “last chance” to complete the community service which he was ordered to undertake in April of this year.

Walter Brampton-Wood, of Orangefield Drive, appeared for a breach of a community-based order at the city’s Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Court heard the defendant had been spoken to by probation who were willing to give him four weeks in which to re-engage with the programme.

Defence solicitor Jarlath Fields stated that Brampton-Wood had a “fairly limited record” adding that he was often confused with his brother who has a more substantial one.

He added that the defendant appeared with his support worker, from Belfast Central Mission, who helped him with his “daily living”.

District Judge Paul Copeland said: “This young man is in a lot of trouble if he does not complete this order which he was sentenced to for social security fraud.

“His excuses for not doing the work are questionable if not absent.”

The district judge added: “This is your last chance, no more messing around or ducking or weaving.

“If you are back before me in four weeks without any work complete you will be going to jail for six months.”

District Judge Copland told Brampton-Wood: “You’ve got a month to sort this out.”

The defendant will return to court on October 30 for an update from probation.
