An Armagh man has been handed a conditional discharge after cannabis and a grinder were located in his car.
The 20-year-old’s solicitor told court: “This is a young man whose domestic circumstances have put him under significant stress”.
Adam Walsh-Oates, of Tullymore Downs, pleaded guilty to possession of Class B at the city’s Magistrates’ on Tuesday.
It was heard that on May 25, at 7.35pm, police on patrol in Armagh had there attention drawn to a BMW parked at the side of the road.
Officers approached to speak to the driver, who identified himself as the defendant, when they noted a strong smell of cannabis.
During a search of the vehicle, police located a quantity of suspected cannabis beside the driver seat along with a grinder containing traces of the drug.
When interviewed, Walsh-Oates confirmed he was the owner of the vehicle but denied that the cannabis was his or having any knowledge of it being inside the car.
Defence solicitor Oisin Toner stated: “He does have a record but nothing relevant, this was a plea at the first opportunity.
“This is a young man whose domestic circumstances have put him under significant stress”.
Walsh-Oates was handed a 12 month conditional discharge for the offence.
