An Armagh man who hid behind a hedge to escape police has been fined £200 for switching licence plates on his motorbikes.
Oskaras Piscikas, 30, of Alexander Avenue, appeared at the city Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with using a motor vehicle without insurance and fraudulent use of a vehicle registration.
The incident occurred on December 19, last year, at around 9.40pm, when police followed an Asprilla motorbike, had travelled down a side alley in Alexandra Drive.
They found the vehicle parked at the rear of a property and the defendant behind a hedge hiding.
Police checks on the registration plate found that it was not correct before it was later discovered that Piscikas had swapped the plates of two bikes he owned.
On December 21, the defendant attended a police station voluntarily and in interview, he admitted to both offences.
In court Piscikas, who represented himself, explained he had tried to get insurance for his bike but when he was unable to he switched the plates.
The defendant now only owned one bike which was insured, court heard.
Piscikas had six penalty points put on his licence and was ordered to a pay a fine of £200, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
