The thoughts and prayers of the community have been flooding in for an Armagh man who has been left in intensive care after being involved in an accident in the city prior to New Year.
Gary McParland was knocked down on the Cathedral Road on December 29, and has been recovering in hospital following surgery for his injuries.
Well-wishers for the family of the Armagh native, known to his friends as Dingo, took to social media last night to light candles and pray for his recovery.
Speaking to Armagh I, Gary’s children Shannon and Eoin expressed their gratitude to those in the community who have kept their father in their thoughts and prayers.
Shannon explained that her father was left with a number of injuries including a shattered pelvis and a chip to his neckbone.
“He has started to react a bit now, he has been squeezing my hand and has been trying to open his eyes”, she said. “But this is only the start and it will be a long road to recovery.”
A post on the Armagh Community Hub social media page asked for members to light a candle and say a prayer for Gary.
This post got a huge response, testament to Gary’s popularity, with many wishing him a speedy recovery and expressing their thoughts to his family.
