An Armagh man who smashed his mother’s window after going “back on the drink” has been handed a suspended sentence.
The 28-year-old’s solicitor told court: “They have since reconciled and he does wish to return to reside with her.”
Jason Toal, of Culdee Drive, had a plea of guilty entered to a single count of criminal damage at the city’s Magistrates’, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
The particulars of the charge outlined that, on September 11, the defendant without lawful excuse damaged a window belonging to a female.
Defence solicitor Jarlath Fields stated: “This relates to the smashing of his mother’s window. They have since reconciled and he does wish to return to reside with her.
“He does have a significant record which can mostly be put down to alcohol abuse.”
He continued: “At the time of this offence he had been residing with his mother, he had gone back on the drink and she could not control him.”
Prosecution outlined that Toal had been handed a period of immediate custody for a “plethora of charges” in January of last year, relating to offences committed in 2018.
District Judge Eamonn King sentenced the defendant to three months in prison suspended for a period of two years.
