From ‘square-bubble’ spectacles to Scientific Sue, the Armagh Observatory and Planetarium have lined up three brain-bending events to help get you through the summer.
Suitable for all ages, these events aim to spark intrigue, inspire young minds, entertain and educate in equal measure.

You will be amazed by this unique performance showcasing the best in bubble magic and infusing this with conjuring and circus sideshow acts adding exciting elements of drama.
This a not to be missed opportunity for young and old to share something special, incredible and, above all, fun packed as we seek the elusive ‘square bubble’. Along the way we will overcome adversities and the natural enemies of bubbles including dangerous sharp objects, fire and naughty children.

Bakineering in Space August 3
How can a retro dessert explain how astronauts safely return to Earth? What connects molten sugar and micro-meteorite protection?
If you have a sweet tooth and a taste for science, join engineer and Great British Bake Off finalist Andrew Smyth to explore the surprising connections between everyday bakes and the extraordinary engineering that helps keep astronauts alive.
Expect tasters in this interactive event where your curiosity will be whisked, stirred and shaken in a show that is out of this world.
About Andrew is an aerospace engineer, baker, presenter and producer from Northern Ireland. He gained a nationwide following for his outrageously engineered creations when he reached the final of The Great British Bake Off in 2016.
Since then, he’s created the art of ‘bakineering’, toured live shows around the UK and Ireland and produced and starred in an original Netflix series, Baking Impossible, released in October 2021. He divides his time between researching future aircraft at Rolls-Royce, live presenting and engineering broadcasting, including as an expert contributor on Discovery Science, the BBC and History Channel.
The Science of Dragons with Scientific Sue August 15 – 16
Join Scientific Sue on this most historical and creative journey of scientific discovery.
The live science show is based on the book written by Cressida Cowell: How to Train Your Dragon. Find out if Cressida is a Scientific genius or just a fantastic story-teller.
Scientific Sue will need lots of brave volunteers to help her investigate and explore the science of how dragons fly. Then, using some of the science behind different ‘fire types’ (steam, ice fog, explosive gases, burning rocks, flammable gases and of course smoke and flames) she will create her own dragon.
