A popular Armagh restaurant tucked away in the heart of the city is to close with immediate effect, the owners have announced.

The husband and wife team say they are pulling the plug after five years because of a hike in rent to a level, which they say, they can no longer trade at.

Posting the news on their Facebook page, Gareth and Kasia Reid, said: “Unfortunately, we have taken the decision to close our restaurant with immediate effect.

“Our landlord has proposed to increase the rent payable on the property to a level where we cannot trade. It is not our wish to close our business and we have done all we can to avoid this.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our guests who have dined with us over the last five years, we have built up some very close relationships and met some wonderful people.

“We would also like to thank our staff members for all the help you gave us throughout.

“Kasia and I have been lucky to have enjoyed the company of our wonderful neighbours, special thanks to Dean Gregory Dunstan, Carol Conlin, Stephen Day and Leigh Vage; thank you to all the residents of Vicars’ Hill and our friends from the Armagh Robinson Library, we wish you joy and success in the future.

“We are aware that there are a few guests with unredeemed vouchers. We will be in touch directly over the coming days.

“Over the years, we have been very fortunate to have had our efforts recognised.

“We are very proud to have won many awards and had so many positive reviews in independent press. As recently as march 2019 we were proud to win the Best Restaurant in Co. Armagh – a crowning achievement for all our effort.

“We hope to continue in the industry be it other premises or continuing with our event catering. We will keep you posted and look forward to having you as our guests in whatever capacity in the near future.

“Thank you all, Gareth ad Kasia Reid”.
