Excitement is building at an Armagh school with the imminent arrival of a Hollywood star the reason for the buzz!
St Catherine’s College’s Drama Department has been unable to contain itself and took to social media and let the cat out of the bag!
The star in question is Stephen Rea and it is quite the coup for the city school.
The Belfast-born star will be meeting the students in the Drama Department on Tuesday (March 3) after kindly agreeing to come along.
Rea has starred in some major movies in his time alongside some of the biggest names; credits include Interview With The Vampire, V For Vendetta, Michael Collins, The End of the Affair, The Butcher Boy, Breakfast on Pluto and many more.
In 1992 he was Oscar-nominated for The Crying Game, a movie with one of the biggest shock twists in cinematic history!
It is not the first time that Stephen Rea has been in Armagh and he is known to be very fond of the city.
In July 2017, he was thrilled to accept the invitation to unveil a Blue Plaque at the Edward Street birthplace of the renowned stage and screen actor Patrick Magee, whose screen credits included A Clockwork Orange and Zulu.
St Catherine’s College is a great school for nurturing drama and the arts and the pupils benefit immensely. Other visitors to create a stir in the past have included the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon.
All at St Catherine’s are really looking forward to the big occasion; you could say the excitement is palpable.
A tweet from the Drama Department put it simply: “One more sleep! St Catherine’s Drama Department will have the great honour to welcome Stephen Rea to our school. This magnificent actor has worked with Samuel Beckett, Brian Friel, Seamus Heaney, Brad Pitt, Ralph Fiennes Tom Cruise and Neil Jordan to name but a few. Can’t wait!”
