Praised has been heaped on the organisers and all those who took part in Armagh’s St Patrick’s Day parade on Friday.
SDLP councillor Haughey proudly joined UUP councillor Colin McCusker and the two Archbishops heading the parade.
Ensuring it was a real family occasion councillor Haughey pushed her two young sons in a double buggy at the head of the parade.
Speaking afterwards she said: “Where else would you want to be today than our beautiful St Patrick’s City, the Ecclesiastical Capital of Ireland, Armagh.
“The St Patrick’s Festival is so important to Armagh and brings thousands upon thousands of visitors into our city every year. It is always a great honour and privilege to take part in the parade and to join our two Archbishops leading this truly culturally and inclusive celebration.

“A tremendous amount of hard works goes in to make this parade such a success. I commend all those groups and individuals who put on quite a show of colour, fun and culture. It’s lovely to see so many aspects of our community represented and it’s a proud day for Armagh people to parade through their City to such rapturous crowds.
“St Patrick’s Festival is a celebration of St Patrick and the important legacy he made to Ireland and its people. In Armagh it’s also an opportunity to celebrate our unique place within the St Patrick Story and that’s why it’s so important to continue to grow this community celebration.
“The rain did not dampen spirits today and it was another proud day for our City and Borough. I was delighted to be there!”
