Armagh woman in court accused of assault and damaging cars with hammer

An Armagh woman appeared in court today (Saturday) accused of assaulting people and damaging cars with a hammer.

Appearing at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court by videolink from police custody, 43-year-old Michelle Crilly was charged with six offences arising from an alleged incident on Friday.

Crilly, from Killuney Drive in Armagh, faces three charges of causing criminal damage to three cars, two counts of common assault and one of possessing a weapon, namely a hammer, with intent to cause damage.

It is understood the charges relate to an alleged incident on Georges Street in the city on Friday afternoon.

In court today, a police officer gave evidence that she believed she could connect Crilly to each of the charges and defence solicitor Jarlath Fields confirmed he was not applying for bail.

He told the court Crilly had actually specifically told him not to ask for bail because the nature of the charges and that “she has asked for sometime to gather herself as it were”.

Remanding Crilly into custody, district Judge Rosie Watters adjourned the case to Armagh Magistrates’ Court on January 16.
