Armagh woman in court accused of causing suffering to dog on Christmas Day

The case was adjourned with the defendant to be produced via videolink from Hydebank on Tuesday for a bail application

An Armagh woman has appeared in court accused of causing unnecessary suffering to a dog on Christmas Day.

Jennifer Bell, of Ardmore Hill, is also charged with disorderly behaviour, common assault and making threats to kill on the same date.

The 39-year-old appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse on Tuesday (January 9).

The charges were read out and while few details were outlined, the court heard they are alleged to have occurred on December 25.

When asked if she understood the charges, she replied: “I do indeed”.

A police constable then said they were aware of the facts of the case and could connect the accused to the charges.

He added that police were opposed to the defendant being granted bail.

Bell’s defence lawyer then told the court that no application for bail would be made as there was no suitable bail address, requesting the case be adjourned for one week to explore an alternative address.

District Judge Anne Marshall adjourned with the defendant to be produced via videolink from Hydebank for a bail application.
