Armagh’s ‘largest primary school’ welcome future pupils and parents to Open Night

The Christian Brothers Primary School in Armagh is inviting prospective parents of nursery and primary one pupils to visit the school on Friday January 9 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Fáilte roimh pháistí úra.

The school – based at Greenpark on the Keady Road – has grown into the largest primary school in Armagh over the last number of years.

In March 2024, it was granted increased enrolment to meet the demand for places in the school. Tá muid ag dul ó neart go neart.

The school, under the leadership of local man Paul Doyle, operates on a large site that incorporates an English Medium Stream, an Irish Medium Stream, two Naíscoileanna (Nursery) classes and a Special Provision in Main Stream class for pupils with autism. Déanann muid riar ar gach dalta.

Armagh C.B.S. operates a wrap around service from 7.45am to 5.30pm every day, with a Breakfast Club opening every morning at 7.45am and an Afterschool Club running until 5.30pm.

There are a range of afterschool activities for P/R1 to P/R7 on every week that includes; Irish Dancing, crafts, Hurling, cross-country running, camogie, lego club, Minecraft Club, boys’ Gaelic, Art Club, choir, tin whistle, Gardening Club and girls’ Gaelic. Tá neart le hofráil againn.

In the Summer the school operates a Summer Scheme for six weeks that runs from 9am – 2pm every day exclusively for its pupils. This is always well attended and very popular.

In September 2024 the school took part in the Education Training Inspectorate new School Inspection Process and came out with an outstanding report.

The ETI noted: “The staff articulate clearly and exemplify the vision of an inclusive ethos; they foster a caring,
well-resourced environment in which children feel safe and happy and which recognises the unique and special gifts and identities of every child.

“The children have high levels of interest and enjoyment in their learning and through the active learning opportunities provided, set in real-life contexts, are developing well their thinking and problem-solving skills.

“The school’s recent focus on improving the quality provision for outdoor learning in the foundation stage has resulted in high-quality and holistic play experiences for the children.

“The school places a high priority on the children’s emotional health and wellbeing through the encouragement to make healthy food choices and the wide range of physical activities offered to support the children’s physical growth and development.

”The highly skilled teachers and classroom assistants work collaboratively to deliver well-considered targeted interventions which are informed by a wide range of qualitative and quantitative data, underpinned by appropriate professional learning and are improving the children’s outcomes as a result.

“The uniqueness of every child is recognised, and the celebration of the children’s successes begins within the warm and supportive classroom environments where they are affirmed and encouraged in their learning by the adults who support them.”
