Part of a former city filling station could be converted into Armagh’s latest hot food takeaway.
The development is proposed for the old Jet Filling Station at Newry Road.
Last December Armagh I revealed that approval had been given to convert the old disused filling station, which had included a video shop, into four retail units.
An unmanned filling station has since been dismantled and work is currently underway.
Now the developer – the Moy-based NR Properties (Armagh) Ltd – has submitted additional plans in relation to the site.
It is now seeking permission for a change of use.
The applicant hopes to convert two of the already approved retail units into one.
This is to facilitate a new hot food takeaway at the Newry Road location.
The identity of the intended tenant is not known at this stage, but the plans – which will be publicly advertised next week – have been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration.
It was in April last year that the proposal to redevelop the old Jet Filling Station was first lodged with planners.
Five objections to the plans were received – three from the one address – relating mainly to the increased level of traffic and impact on visual amenity of the owner’s property.
But a planning official in December recommended that the development – which includes nine parking spaces and two disabled bays fronting on to Newry Road – should be allowed to proceed.
A decision in relation to the takeaway should be expected in the next few months.
It comes just weeks after Armagh I revealed planning approval had been given for a new pizza restaurant and takeaway on the site of the Xtra-Vision shop at Lonsdale Road.
That application was for the Pie Face Pizza Company.
