Armagh’s McShane Packaging celebrates 30 Years of business

McShane Packaging, a family-owned packaging business based in Armagh, celebrated 30 years in business on February 1, 2026, marking three decades of growth, resilience and commitment to family values.

Founded in 1996 by Paddy McShane, the business originally supplied chemicals and sundries to mushroom growers across Ireland and the UK. In 2002, Paddy’s wife Philippa McShane joined the company, strengthening its foundations as a family enterprise.

For almost 30 years, Paddy and Philippa have worked together through every challenge and period of growth within the business. Their dedication, long-term vision and belief in building something meaningful has been the bedrock of McShane Packaging’s success.

Second-generation leadership plays a vital role in the longevity and evolution of family businesses. At McShane Packaging, the transition into the second generation brings continuity alongside fresh perspective, with Paddy and Philippa’s daughter Jordan joining the business as Financial Controller.

The involvement of the next generation ensures that the values, culture, and commitment on which the company was founded are preserved, while also introducing new ideas, modern systems, and innovative ways of thinking.

By combining experience built over decades with a forward-looking approach, the second generation helps strengthen the business, drive sustainable growth, and position it for continued success in an ever-changing market.

Today, McShane Packaging manufactures products using PP, PS, R-PET (Recycled PET) and cardboard materials, giving us a distinct competitive advantage within the UK market by allowing customers to source mixed material loads of packaging from a single supplier.

In response to growing consumer demand and supermarket sustainability targets, R-PET has become an increasingly preferred material choice.

McShane Packaging have recently completed a major R-PET transition consisting of 85+ million punnets per annum being supplied to one of the UK’s leading supermarkets through their Ireland and UK distributors. This milestone highlights their ability to support customers through material transitions while delivering sustainable, compliant packaging solutions that meet both retail and consumer expectations.

In 2021, McShane Packaging temporarily relocated from their Moy Road headquarters to facilitate a significant phase of growth and expansion. This period allowed for the construction of a newly built office and warehouse facility, designed to provide increased capacity for both their team and storage requirements, while supporting long-term development plans.

The renovation was completed in 2023,  where they returned to the site and continued their journey with enhanced infrastructure. Since then, their team has grown and their ability to supply high-quality packaging solutions to customers worldwide has continued to strengthen.

In recent years, they have made substantial investments in new machinery, enabling them to convert paperboard and form cardboard products in-house. This development reflects on their commitment to evolving with market trends and maintaining their position as a competitive and forward-thinking packaging supplier. Over the past 18 months, they have also invested more than £250,000 in new tooling, including R-PET tooling and specialist tooling to manufacture trays for the ready-meal sector.

As a family-run business, they continuously seek opportunities to advance and improve, and these investments are a clear demonstration of that ongoing commitment.

Equally central to their success are the people behind the business. Many of their team members have been with McShane Packaging since before 2000 and throughout the early 2000s, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company over the past 30 years.

Speaking of the anniversary, Philippa said:

“Our experience, loyalty, and dedication have provided continuity, knowledge, and pride in what we do, and it is this collective effort that has allowed the business to grow, adapt, and succeed.

“We are where we are today because of the people who have stood alongside us every step of the way.”

As McShane Packaging marks its 30th anniversary, it stands as an example of what can be achieved through hard work, family values and a commitment to both people and community, creating a legacy built to last for generations.
