An arrest warrant has been issued for a man who ran off from police after being found in possession of cannabis.
This was made after the 43-year-old, who has 118 previous convictions, failed to appear in court to contest the offences.
Michael Kieran Reilly, of Carrowshee Park in Lisnaskea, Co Fermanagh, was convicted in his absence of possession of Class B and obstructing police at Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
Prosecution outlined that on May 22, 2018, police had reason to attend an address on Corrigan Court, Armagh, due to an unrelated matter.
Upon entering the property, this defendant was observed sleeping on a sofa. Officers noted a grinder on the coffee table and a brown substance fell out of his left trouser pocket as he was woken up.
A further search of Reilly’s person proved negative but police seized the brown suspected cannabis resin. The defendant was cautioned making no reply.
Police told Reilly to stay where he was whilst officers detained another male acting aggressively at the property, however, the defendant ran off.
Officers gave chase but lost sight of Reilly and were unable to locate him.
District Judge Bernie Kelly recorded a conviction and noting his record, some 118 previous convictions, issued an arrest warrant.
