Storm Darragh is set to be one of the worst storms in recent times – so much so the Met Office has issued a red warning for parts of the UK.
Armagh – and Northern Ireland – will be under an amber warning from 1am on Saturday morning until 9pm that evening.
Gusts will reach highs of 70mph which will inevitably impact travel across the county.
Newry, Mourne and Council have, as expected, announced the closure of its forest parks, including Slieve Gullion. They have been closed from 1pm on Friday until Sunday due to the increased likelihood and risks associated with falling branches and debris.
Council have added that there may be some delays in the re-opening of the parks on Sunday morning in order to facilitate safety inspections “but we will endeavour to reinstate public access as soon as possible”.
Mountain bike trails will reopen after inspection on Monday morning.
Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Council soon followed suit.
They said all parks, open spaces and golf courses will be closed on Saturday, December 7, and will have a delayed opening until 12noon on Sunday, December 8, subject to site inspections.
Recycling Centres and the Navan Centre in Armagh will be closed on Saturday.
Pretty much any outdoor activity across the county will be cancelled or postponed on Saturday. This include the Twilight Market at Benburb Priory on Friday evening, as well as its Christmas Fair on Saturday.
In light of this, the Priory is extending its opening hours on Sunday until 8pm.
