Now ‘screening’ potential tenants: Effort to fill former Armagh Omniplex premises continues

Armagh Omniplex

Almost six months since Armagh Omniplex closed its doors to the public, the council are regrettably still attempting to attract a new tenant for the substantial city-centre property.

The Omniplex – based on Market Street – screened its final film on January 25, 2026.

It was a sad day for movie-lovers across the city and its surrounding areas, who can now find their nearest cinemas approximately 20 to 30 minutes’ drive away in Newry, Craigavon or Dungannon.

The sprawling premises housed four screens across a lower ground, ground, first and second floors and was set within the very heart of Armagh’s commercial centre.

According to the listing agent OKT, the property would be “ideally suited for use within the leisure, recreational and hospitality sectors but is equally adaptable for alternative uses subject to any necessary planning consents”.

Armagh is undoubtedly in desperate need of businesses within the leisure and recreational sectors… and if another eatery were built into plans, it would likely be very welcome news.

But as of yet, the building is still to attract a suitable tenant.

The rental rate of the property is available only upon application and the overall term of the lease is listed as “negotiable”.

According to a brochure provided by OKT, the estimated rates per year would total in the region of £12,016 – working out at just over £1,000 per calendar month. Not entirely unreasonable given its size.

The very centre of the city has sadly lost a number of key tenants in recent months, with Embers first to go and Omniplex not long after.

However, eagle-eyed passer-by may have noticed the windows of Embers covered up in the last number of weeks…

While there is no confirmation as of yet whether work is underway internally for a new tenant to take over the property, details will be published as and when they become available.

Hopefully, the former Omniplex building follows suit with something fresh and exciting in the very near future!

Feel free to let us know your thoughts on what might make for a good use of the space.
