Councillor goes ‘quackers’ over Armagh’s potholes!

Operation Rubber Duck could be coming to a road near you...

An Armagh Councillor has gone ‘quackers’ over the increasing depth and multitude of potholes on local roads.

Enlisting the help of some yellow rubber ducks, Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon is hoping to highlight the worsening situation… with a spot of light-hearted humour.

Starting with the Clay and Cargaclougher Roads, the Councillor explained: “Many of our roads are in a terrible state, and I am constantly reporting what seems to be the same roads year in year out!

“Only this year, I’ve enlisted some help to demonstrate just how bad some of the potholes are.”

Calling his mission ‘#OperationRubberDuck’, the Councillor added: “It’s not a ‘Duck Race’ nor am I allowing Conor [his son] to have a bath in some of the potholes, but some of them are so deep he would just love to get jumping in and out of them in his wellies!”

While they may look cute – there’s nothing pretty about the state of the roads.

Returning to an air of seriousness, the Councillor explained that he has been taking action behind the scenes.

“I’ve been onto Roads Service again about the Clay, Lower Clay and Cargaclougher Roads,” he said. “I’ve pleaded for urgent action!

“I’m advised that works for initial repairs are now scheduled in the short term and plans are being made for a more extensive improvement scheme along the road.

“As soon as I have further details I will post an update here!

“PS: Keep an eye out, Operation Rubber Duck is coming to a road near you too.”
