An sign congratulating Madden Rapparees on their momentous weekend win has been vandalised.

On Sunday October 26, Madden took home the Senior County Championship title for the first time in club history, in their defeat of St Patrick’s, Cullyhanna.

Over the last number of weeks, the Madden community have shown their support and excitement for the team getting through to the final by laying out flags, bunting and custom banners.

And, with an incredible 11 point victory, the team have continued to celebrate their success over the last number of days.

However today (October 29), the community’s spirits will no doubt be dampened when learning of the burning of a roadside congratulations sign.

Taking to social media to speak about the incident, Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan said: “I condemn in the strongest terms the disgraceful burning of the congratulations sign for the Madden Senior footballers.

“We have reported this criminality to the police and will fully support their investigation.

“At a time when our community is filled with pride and joy, this act is deeply disappointing and does not reflect the true spirit of Madden — one of unity, respect, and pride in our team.

“Now is the time to stand together, support one another, and continue celebrating the success of our players, coaches, and everyone involved in this remarkable season.

“Sinn Féin will continue working with all relevant bodies and the wider community to ensure those responsible are held accountable and that our shared sense of pride and togetherness endures.”
