Devastated Armagh family announce sad passing of son who lost brave battle with cancer

Stan Conroy who found a new passion for photography whilst undergoing cancer treatment will have his work proudly displayed in the Market Place Theatre next week.

An Armagh family have been left “devastated” after the passing of a son and brother who found a new passion for photography whilst battling cancer.

The Conroy family announced the death of Stan in an emotional Facebook post on Wednesday.

“We are devastated to give you the sad news that Stan died today,” the post read.

“Stan is the brightest light in our lives and will be sadly missed by us, our families and all our friends.

“As you know he was a wonderful photographer and raised an incredible amount of money for charities supporting children like himself who are faced with cancer, and was very proud of this.”

Despite being left with poor sight and losing power in his right side, Stan managed to develop great photography skills which, last year, were on show both at The Market Place Theatre in Armagh and the Lexicon in Dublin.

A spokesperson for the Market Place Theatre said: “We were so sad to hear the devastating news that Stan Conroy passed away yesterday.

“Stan was a wonderful boy with an incredible talent for photography. We were delighted to host an exhibition of his work at The Market Place in May 2019.

“His photographs showed the beauty in the everyday, the extraordinary in the ordinary and they were enjoyed by hundreds of visitors, amazed that work of such quality was created by someone so young. It was a privilege to work with Stan and his family on the exhibition and he left a lasting impression on us all.

“Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Paula, Ian, Molly, Olive, Ella and the whole family at this sad time.”

It all started for Stan back in January, last year, when Cancer Fund for Children invited him to a residential at Daisy Lodge in Newcastle.

The children were asked to keep a photo diary of the next month, however, the young man did not stop there as the task marked the start of a new burning passion.

Our sympathies are with the family at this time. They have asked that in lieu of flowers, donations are made in Stan’s memory to Brain Tumour Research.
