An erroneous new sign installed on the Moy Road has attracted quite a bit of attention from eagle-eyed passers-by…
The directional sign at the staggered crossroads with Ballygassoon Road and Lisbofin Road points to Armagh, Dungannon, Richhill, B’watertown… Benburd and Loughall.
Two errors, two signs.
Pictures of the signs have been published on social media by those quick enough to notice the mistakes. But the blame – like the signs – is being pointed in all manner of directions.
Contemplating the process behind the scenes, Cllr Dominic Molloy said “there’s a long list of mishaps that led to this”.
He bullet-pointed “someone somewhere ordered a new sign, they either spelled Benburd wrong or the person making the sign had a mix-up, someone proofread the order and finished the sign, said sign was delivered to a service yard, someone (or 2) loaded up the sign for installation, sign onsite and installed, double checked and it’s on nice and straight, supervisor possibly came along, checked and signed off job complete, nice new sign directing traffic to Benburd.”
However, he too, failed to notice ‘Loughall’.
Some of those commenting have blamed ABC Council for said mishaps and others, more appropriately, call out the Department for Infrastructure.
Yes, someone in DfI perhaps didn’t dot all their i’s or cross all their t’s. Maybe several people. It happens. But it is a little comical, if nothing else.
Armagh I have contacted DfI for comment.
