A Portadown woman who was caught more than twice the drink driving limit has been handed 12 month disqualification.
Court heard that the 51-year-old was detected after report of a one vehicle collision which resulted in her vehicle coming to a halt in a hedge.
Mary Susan McCann, of Parkside, was convicted in her absence of a single charge of driving with excess alcohol at Armagh Magistrates’, sitting at Newry, on Tuesday.
Defence counsel for the defendant informed the court that they wished to come off record and following this the case was proved in her absence.
Prosecution outlined that on March 4, police received a report of a one vehicle collision on the Derrycaw Road.
Officers arrived to find a vehicle in a hedge, with the defendant leaning on the driver side door speaking to someone who had came to her aid.
Police observed the usual symptoms of intoxication; McCann’s eyes were glazed and she was unsteady on her feet.
A preliminary breath test at the roadside resulted in a fail, with a subsequent evidential sample obtained in custody giving a reading of 88mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.
During interview, the defendant admitted to being the driver of the vehicle but could give no explanation for why the accident occurred.
Proving the case in her absence, District Judge Eamonn King disqualified McCann from driving for 12 months and ordered that she pay a fine of £250, along with the offender’s levy of £15.
