Young vandals are terrorising Armagh residents over the last number of weeks with one elderly man the victim of repeated attacks on his home.
The man, who lives alone, has been the victim of young drinkers, according to a local resident who has witnessed these incidents first hand.
Fences belonging to the man living in the Druids Villas area of the city have been ripped off with the thugs understood to have attempted to smash his windows, with the latest attack coming late last night (Monday).
A resident who contacted Armagh I to highlight the issue told us that this was an all too familiar trend in the area.
He confirmed that it’s a similar situation in the Callan Street and Culdee areas.
The man, who did not want to be named, said: “Some of the damage to the fence was done a few weeks ago with more done last night.
“This is an older man, living alone doing nobody any harm. Some of them would come in on scramblers and just cause havoc.
“One of the other residents is also having his house targeted by the youths, simply because he is trying to encourage them to move on to somewhere else.”
He added: “They seem to be young people and for the past few weeks, on a Saturday night from about 6pm until late, as well as most Sunday evenings.
“They are coming into the area in car-loads, with drink being taken, leaving dozens of empty bottles about the place, most of which are being smashed for the locals to clean up the next day. It’s an extremely difficult and dangerous situation, especially when there are young children about.
He continued: “They showed up last night again; maybe because it’s half-term. The residents around here have called the police on numerous occasions.
“To be fair, they have appeared after numerous calls but it doesn’t seem to have had the desired effect.”
