‘Explore and process grief’: Southern Area Hospice offer seven week Bereavement Journey

Have you been bereaved due to a palliative condition? Southern Area Hospice’s free Bereavement Journey programme could be suitable for you

Southern Area Hospice’s (SAH) seven-week Bereavement Journey programme will begin on September 17, 2024.

The Bereavement Journey programme is open to all residents of the SHSCT area, including the main towns of Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon, Dungannon, Portadown, Newry and the Mourne area.

The Bereavement Journey programme will take place in St. John’s House, Newry on Tuesdays and in South Tyrone Hospital, Dungannon on Wednesdays. Individuals do not have to be previously known to Southern Area Hospice or have used its services to join this programme.

It is available to those who have lost loved ones to palliative illnesses such as cancer, heart failure, or motor neurone disease. The programme provides a safe space for individuals to explore and process their grief alongside others with similar experiences.

The seven-week programme touches on topics including: Looking at loss, the pain of grief: how we can respond, reactions of others, obstacles to the grief journey, coping with change, moving forward, and an optional session considering faith questions.

Jim Fleming, SAH Chaplain said: “The Bereavement Journey provides some information and a listening space to help those who are grieving, to better understand their grief and help them to navigate through their grief journey.”

A past attendee of the Bereavement Journey said: “It was good to be able to express my feelings with people who understood, because they were experiencing much the same.”

Participants must opt for either the Tuesday afternoon or evening session in Newry or the Wednesday morning sessions in Dungannon for the duration of the seven-week programme. The details are:
