The family of Lesley-ann McCarragher – who died after a hit and run in Armagh last weekend – have thanked the public for their support.
There was a huge outpouring of grief and shock across the entire community after it was learned last Sunday morning that Lesley-ann had passed away.
Now the family have urged the public to show their support and backing for a charity set up to establish an air ambulance in Northern Ireland.
Lesley-ann had been jogging along the Monaghan Road, not far from her home, when she was struck by a vehicle at around 12.25pm last Saturday.
The 19-year-old – a former Head Girl at the City of Armagh High School – passed away overnight at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
Lesley-Ann was laid to rest on Wednesday at Aghavilly Parish Churchyard, after a funeral service held in First Armagh Presbyterian Church.
Donations in lieu of flowers are being accepted for the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland.
Lesley-ann’s elder sister Judith last night thanked the community on behalf of the family and urged people to show their support for that great cause.
Writing via Facebook, the 21-year-old said: “Following the tragic death of our beautiful Lesley-ann McCarragher, we as a family, have been greatly moved and comforted by the overwhelming support we have received from across the entire country.
“With this in mind we would like to invite people to donate to the Air Ambulance Northern Ireland Charity, our first helicopter emergency medical service. Public support is vital to ensure its sustainability. We are in no doubt, this will save many lives in the future.
“Thank you for your support. McCarragher family, Armagh.”
