Fane Valley plans to build new farm shop in Armagh recommended for approval

New development would be located at Alexander Road with demolition of existing building on site

Plans by Fane Valley to open a new farm shop in Armagh are set to be recommended for approval.

Armagh I revealed proposals for the new development at Alexander Road in the city last May.

After in-depth consideration – which has included a detailed flood risk assessment – planners are satisfied that the new agri-farm shop can go ahead.

That will be the recommendation being presented to councillors when the planning committee next sits in March.

The new agri-farm shop would involve the demolition of an existing building on site.

The plan is to replace it with a commercial outlet which would stretch to in excess of 1,100 sq metres.

The new development would include ancillary office space and staff facilities.

There would be a canopy link to the existing building with a current shop being converted to provide additional storage.

Parking and other site works are included in the application.

Planners had ruled out the need for an environmental assessment in determining the application, stating: “There are no special designated sites in relation to heritage or landscape in close proximity.”

And they add: “Appropriate measures to ensure the new development is of high design quality can be achieved through the development management process without the need for an environmental statement.”

It will be up to councillors now to decide whether or not to accept the recommendation.
