The incredABLE Black Moon Disco – aimed at young adults with intellectual disabilities and autism – will be celebrating one year in Armagh this week.
It empowers young people in pursuit of a unique and authentic nightclub experience, hosted at the Armagh City Hotel.
And this Thursday, February 28, from 7.30pm until 9pm, it will be time to mark the first birthday.
The whole idea behind the incredABLE Black Moon Disco is to inspire, empower and include – and that is well worth celebrating on this milestone month.
Having opened its doors at the Fringe Lounge, Armagh City Hotel on Thursday, February 15, last year, the monthly disco for and by adults with a learning disability and autism has gone from strength to strength.
incredABLE, a leading service provider of social and recreational opportunities for people with an intellectual disability and/or autism, host the monthly disco in sponsoring venue, Armagh City hotel, in partnership with the brand owning arts centre, Black Box, Belfast.
The first of its kind in the Southern trust area, this inclusive clubbing experience provides a unique opportunity for over 18s to socialise and meet new friends, develop confidence and build self-esteem in a positive, modern and safe environment.
Commenting on the venture when opening Director Nigel Hampton said: “Black Moon represents an ideal fit with the incredABLE vision of empowering individuals to make choices, discover talents, realise passion and participate in community on their own terms”
“In keeping with the organisation’s ethos, the incredABLE Black Moon is organised monthly by a group of young people aged 18 – 25 years who are participants in the five-year Big Lottery Funded ‘We are incredABLE Project’.”
Project Co-ordinator Gemma McKinney explains: “The event was an ideal way to launch the We are incredABLE Project, the young people who train at incredABLE Enterprises or who help co-design the project, work hard to reduce barriers to social inclusion and it’s our creative approach to service provision that means the individuals we support can connect with others, express themselves and grow in confidence, the incredABLE Black Moon certainly supports that.”
IncredABLE Black Moon would like to thank everyone involved in making the past year monthly discos such a success, including the hardworking volunteers, the incredABLE Black Moon DJs, the incredABLE Armagh City Hotel, partner Black Box and finally the Big Lottery Fund, who provide financial support to this project.
