Four fundraising ‘fellas’ get Dublin Marathon ready in aid of ‘amazing’ Newry hospice

It's a particularly poignant run for one team member, whose father used Evora Hospice services in the weeks before he died

Four fundraising ‘fellas’ from Co Armagh are squeezing the miles in ahead of taking on the Dublin Marathon in memory of a very special man who passed away almost a decade ago.

Those four eager marathoners are close friends: Tim Kinnear, James Berry, Ryan Morton and Samuel Scott.

Together, the quartet are hoping to raise vital funds for Evora Hospice, as a thank you for all they did for Tim’s father, John in the weeks leading up to his passing almost ten years ago.

John sadly lost his fight with pancreatic cancer in 2017.  Evora [then known as Southern Area Hospice] provided an indescribable level of care and support to John and his family for four weeks before he died.

The compassion and kindness shown by all at Evora is something Tim will never forget and has, for years, continued to repay.

For this is not his first fundraising effort! Three years ago, Tim and three friends [James Berry, Glenn Falloon, Ryan Morton] launched themselves from an airplane at 10,000 ft in a bid to give back to this incredible charity.

And now, with his father’s ten year anniversary looming, a new idea for a charity challenge has resulted in the formation of their merry band of marathon runners!

Speaking to Armagh I, Tim explained: “Again, like the skydive, we are doing it to raise funds for the Evora hospice (Southern Area Hospice) – a place that’s means so much to myself and my family.

“And I’m sure I can speak for others when I say the work and dedication they put into looking after everyone who comes through their doors is amazing!

“Originally I had chatted about us doing the 26.2 mile between the four of us… but that was quickly overruled by the other fellas and I was told if we can’t do the 26.2 miles each there would be no point in doing it so here we are now putting in heavy practice!”

Already, the team have raised an impressive £5,500… £1,500 over their original target of £4,000.

The hunger to push that total towards the £6,000 is spurring the four on and ensuring they keep themselves in peak physical condition for the big day.

In just three weeks’ time, on October 25, the fellas will be up bright and early and finding their space near the starting line in Dublin.

It won’t just be nerves and sheer adrenaline seeing them across the line, 26.2 long miles later… it will be John and all of the incredible Evora team.

Tim wished to pass on his sincere thanks to anyone who has donated thus far and to anyone who has taken the time to help spread awareness.
