A man who burgled a woman who was forced to watch on helplessly from her bed because of a severe physical disability has been sentenced to four years behind bars.
Penyo Koychev, 28, of Loughgall Road, Armagh was sentenced at Dungannon Crown Court following the heinous crime at a property in Lisnaclin Court, back in November of last year.
Police in Dungannon today welcomed the sentencing, describing the crime as “a particularly disgusting incident” on a vulnerable female.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “In November we received a report of a suspected burglary that had just happened at the home of a female who was confined to bed.
“Crews flooded the area setting up checkpoints and stopping and searching persons and vehicles.
“It soon became apparent the male who carried out the burglary had done so knowing the victim was unable to move and had in fact caused her to watch as he stole all the items from her room.
“Crews with the victim relayed information to the crews out searching and within a short time a male was detained. When he was searched, property belong to the victim was found. Discarded items also found nearby. He was then arrested.
“A detailed prosecution case was then put together and submitted to the PPS.
“Fast forward to today and we take great satisfaction in being able to tell you the same male has been sentenced to four years imprisonment.
“Satisfaction at the sentencing but still disgust that the incident occurred in the first place.”
Koychev had stolen an iPhone, a Jimmy Choo purse of value containing £200 and bank cards.
