A charitable Armagh organisation has announced the launch of a free summer camp designed to support working families living in the area.

Running from Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 22, the week-long camp will offer 40 places to children who might otherwise miss out on affordable childcare options during the summer holidays.

Packed with activities, the camp promises a fun and engaging schedule including arts and crafts, a visit to Armagh Planetarium, Navan Fort warrior school, Craigavon ski slopes, a movie day, and much more. Parents can rest assured that lunch is included daily, and there are no additional costs involved.

For the past decade, the West Armagh Consortium has delivered a summer camp during the first week of August, funded through Neighbourhood Renewal, which in essence restricts access to families living in specific areas. That programme is still running as usual this year.

However, recognising the growing pressure on families outside of those designated zones, the team worked hard to secure new funding to deliver this additional week, opening up the opportunity to a broader group of children.

Nóra Quigley of the West Armagh Consortium said: “I know all too well the cost families face through the summer months having five children myself.  We have worked hard to secure this funding to ease some pressure on the working family.

“Thank you to the Housing Executive and Arke Housing – two local organisations – along with West Armagh Consortium, their commitment ensures this camp will be a huge success.”

Applications for the camp will open on Monday via the group’s Facebook page, where parents can easily apply online.

With only 40 spaces available, families are encouraged to apply early to avoid disappointment.
