Further heartbreak as mum-of-four injured in Markethill collision passes away

A second person has died as a result of the horrific early morning collision near Markethill at the weekend.

Ciara McElvanna, from Madden, passed away peacefully in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast yesterday (Wednesday). She was 44-years-old.

The mother-of-four had been critically injured in the collision, which involved four vehicles, and happened on the Gosford Road at around 1.30am on Saturday.

Patrick Grimley, also from Madden, lost his life in the accident and was laid to rest yesterday, (Wednesday).

He had celebrated his 40th birthday on Monday of last week and it is understood had been making his way home from Dundalk Races for an evening with family and friends.

Eight people were injured in the horrific crash, with one of those, Ciara McElvanna, now also losing her fight for life.

Her death has again plunged the County Armagh community into mourning.

Tributes are being paid via social media.

One person wrote: “This is heartbreaking. Such a truly lovely girl and great nurse. My thoughts are with her husband, children family, friends and colleagues.”

Ciara is described in a death notice as the “beloved wife of Kevin and devoted mother of Niamh, Claire, Dara, and Aoife”, daughter of Roisin and John, and sister to Sean, Conor, Cáilín, Caitriona, Séilín and Shauna. She is also a daughter-in-law of Frankie and Theresa, and sister-in-law to Paul, Shane and Aideen.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be finalised.
