Gas mains laying work on the Upper English Street area in Armagh is due to begin this coming Saturday, October 27.
After extensive consultation and discussions with local schools and public bodies Firmus Energy will be commencing works over the mid-term break to minimise any disruption for passing traffic.
The works will commence on Saturday, October 27 and contractors will be working Saturday through to Sunday, November 4 to ensure that the development work is completed in as short a timeframe as possible.
The initial works is based on a nine day plan and Firmus contractors will return on Sunday 2nd December to complete construction works in the area.
Ciaran Brennan, Project Engineer for Firmus Energy said: “We have engaged extensively with Transport NI, traffic police, other utility providers and we have agreed a traffic management plan for the duration of the work to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users.
“These works are necessary to bring natural gas to the new Aonach Mhacha Irish language cultural centre. The proposed construction works will involve the closure of one traffic lane inbound and diverting outbound traffic.
“In addition to supplying the centre with a supply of natural gas, this project will also enable an additional 45 homes and businesses to connect to the Firmus Energy Ten Towns natural gas network.”
