Hewitt summer school bursaries on offer in ABC borough

The bursaries offer opportunities to residents throughout the entire Council area to partake fully in the prestigious Summer School programme.

The much-anticipated programme for the 39th John Hewitt International Summer School at The Market Place Theatre, Armagh, will be announced in full in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, the organisers have announced the availability of non-residential bursaries for people living throughout the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council area.

These bursaries allow people resident in the Council area to attend all the Summer School events, receptions and activities, including writing workshops, which run between Monday, July 27 and Friday, July 31.

The John Hewitt Society is very grateful to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for its continuing support, and, as a special local initiative, the organisers continue to offer these attractive non-residential bursaries. The bursaries offer opportunities to residents throughout the entire Council area to partake fully in the prestigious Summer School programme and attend all the various talks, readings, workshops and panel discussions, as well as the attractive evening shows in The Market Place Theatre in Armagh during the annual Festival of Literature, the Arts and Ideas..

Frank Ferguson, Chairman of The John Hewitt Society, said:

“These bursaries have become increasingly popular and last year we had applications from all over the Council area.

“However, the John Hewitt Society is keen to point out that, while first-time applicants are most welcome, having received one of the ABC Council area bursaries should not prevent people from applying again.

“What we ask of those who receive bursaries is that they attend a significant percentage of the Summer School activities on offer and submit a brief report after the Summer School.

“We again want to get across to as many people as possible throughout the entire ABC Council area that the activities of this John Hewitt Summer School are always as much intended for them as they are for those who visit from other parts of Ireland North and South.

“All our events, including our workshops, are open to the public and tickets for individual events and workshops can be booked from the Box Office at The Market Place. The special non-residential bursaries offer as many local people as possible the opportunity to attend everything, including writing workshops, throughout the week.”

The closing date for applications for the ABC Council area non-residential bursaries is Wednesday 22 May.

Anyone interested can apply online via the JHS website at www.johnhewittsociety.org or the John Hewitt Society Social channels and applications for local bursaries should be submitted as soon as possible.
