It has been a record-breaking year for City of Armagh High School which has achieved the highest GCSE results in its history.
A total of 81 per cent of pupils were awarded five A*- C grades, an accomplishment described as “outstanding” by principal Mrs Karen Mulholland.
The top performers were Leah Govan who achieved 2A*, 4A and 3B grades and Sasha Woods with 1A*, 4A, 3B and 1C*.
Jonathan Armstrong and Billy Wilson both achieved 2A, 6B and 2C* grades; Ruth-Ellie Boyd 1A*, 2A, 5B and 1C grade and Robertas Filimonovas 1A*, 1A, 6B and 1C* grade.
Other top achievers included Saul Stewardson, Ellie Brown, Amy Lester, Alex Phillips, Ellie Wilson and Sophie Scroggie.
The biggest number of departments ever achieved 100 per cent A*-C grades – art and design, business studies, child development, French, geography, home economics, ICT, OCN science, Prince’s Trust and technology.
These departments were followed closely by double award science, occupational studies, PE, OCN RE, motor vehicle and road user studies.
The English and mathematics results continue to go from strength to strength with an increase of 6 per cent on last year.
Mrs Mulholland said the pathway system that has been developed is a huge contributing factor to the success as it supports each pupil’s individual strengths and interests.
“The ongoing partnership with the Southern Regional College has provided pupils with the opportunity to undertake Occupational Studies in a range of vocational areas, with over 60 per cent of the grades achieved at a grade A or A*standard,” she said.
“The partnership with the EA youth service has also been invaluable as our pupils achieved 95 per cent grade B or equivalent.
“City of Armagh High School is a school where every child can achieve and we hope that the school’s results continue to go from strength to strength.”
Extending the school’s best wishes to the class of 2022, she added: “We are proud, not only of your academic success, but also of your personal, social and emotional development. We wish you all every success and happiness as you embark on the next chapter of your lives.”
