How a-bout that! Armagh boxer crowned All-Ireland colleges champion

Armagh’s Jake Daly has been crowned All-Ireland Irish Athletic Third Level Boxing Association (IATBA) senior 63.5kg champion after a superb run of performances at Dublin’s National Stadium.

Representing SRC Newry and Dbox Boxing Club in Armagh, Jake battled through three tough contests on successive weekends to lift the prestigious all-Ireland college title.

Action began on Saturday, March 7 in the quarter-finals, where Jake faced Dublin’s Rahaman Abdulnasser, representing TUDT. In a tight and tactical bout, Jake edged his opponent on a 2–1 split decision to book his place in the last four.

Returning to the National Stadium the following day, Sunday, March 8, Jake met Cork’s Joseph O’Brien of MTUC in the semi-final. Showing sharp movement and clean shot selection, he impressed all three judges and secured a unanimous decision victory, advancing to the national decider.

The all-Ireland final took place on Saturday, March 14, with Jake up against Omagh’s Pádraig Taggart, representing Ulster University.

Rising to the occasion on the sport’s biggest domestic stage, Jake produced his best performance of the tournament, once again earning a unanimous decision to claim the IATBA senior 63.5kg title.
