Hughes Bar & Venue are remembering a dear friend, family member and former owner by organising a charity evening to celebrate what would have been his 6oth birthday.
The celebrations at Hughes Bar & Venue on Lower English Street, Armagh will be held in honour of the late Tony Hughes.
Tony – who also owned Toni’s Bar & Grill in the Shambles area of the city and just a few years before his death launched The Parkland Restaurant at County Armagh Golf Club – was a well known and deeply respected businessman.
News of Tony’s sudden death in August 2022 sent shockwaves throughout the community.

The team at Hughes Bar & venue have now committed to hosting a ‘pool competition’ on Saturday, December 7 with all proceeds to go to Armagh Outreach Team – an organisation he grew close to and was incredibly fond of.
Speaking at the time of Tony’s passing Armagh Outreach Team said they were “devastated to learn of the sudden passing of Tony Hughes”.
Aislinn Grant said Tony was “instrumental in providing meals free of charge on a regular basis to our table on a Friday 6:30-7:30pm outside Danske Bank”.
“We serve everyone experiencing homelessness, food poverty or isolation and Tony, not only was a successful business man, but one of the most friendly, generous and down to earth people you could meet around our city.

“A big smile and wave for all. Truly unselfish and will be sorely missed by all our volunteers and service users. his memory will live on.”
The pool event will take place all day with a DJ due to play from 7pm that evening.
All friends and family are welcome and light snacks will be provided.
