We kicked off the Armagh I People of the Year Awards in partnership with Armagh Credit Union this week.
Doing things a little differently this year, we are surprising each winner with an award – live on camera!
And this year’s first winner was the incredible Sam Murray who is the very deserving winner of Inspirational Young Person of the Year.
With the help of his mum, we where able to track down Sam’s place of work, Daly’s in Eglish, and get his boss Martin to help us execute this surprise visit! And a surprise it was. We snuck up on unsuspecting Sam, who was on top of a ladder, busy tiding bread shelves and presented him with a glass award, kindly sponsored by Tarasis Enterprises.
Caught completely off guard, Sam insists he had no idea he was even nominated and told us a little bit about how his initiative got him this very deserving recognition.
The 24-year-old set up all inclusive sports club, Brave Buddies, in April of this year after tiring of watching his eight-year-old brother Henry being left out of rugby on a weekly basis.
The initiative has grown from strength-to-strength since then and Sam now tells us he has received a grant from Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council to help further expand is venture and help more children with disabilities to be included in sport.
A very worthy winner – congratulations Sam!
