A Co Armagh bed store is offering £50 vouchers to all NHS staff to recognise that they’ve all earned a good night’s sleep!

Mr Beds, an independent family-run business, have been operating and distributing luxury bedding nationwide for over a quarter of a decade.

Owner Raymond Watters made the decision following the passing of his father during the pandemic in a nursing home.

Speaking to Armagh I, Raymond said: “I went 11 weeks without seeing him, but it touched a nerve with me. We are a family business and we wanted to give back. Overall this is a big thank-you to all workers

“For all the work that they do we just wanted to offer them the comfort and rest that they need and deserve before being on their feet all day.

“It was only at the start of the year that many of them were out striking for a pay rise. Just a few months on from that and they are saving lives on a daily basis.”

Reflecting on how business has been, Raymond and Mr Beds – based at Newtownhamilton Road, Armagh – have had a very different experience from many.

He confirmed: “Business has been very good. We do a lot of work for the National Health through Social Services and we got a letter from them to stay open through the lockdown.

“We were for some time the only bedding store open in Northern Ireland, so from the week before St Patrick’s Day right up to the start of June has been my busiest period in 27 years.

“We were going everywhere from Portaferry to Carrickfergus and all over Belfast. The main problem was sourcing with the factories closed but we have made contacts with directors over the years and they opened up for us.”

The store is now reopened to the public 9pm to 5pm six days a week with free delivery nationwide.
